Voucher for 30-minutes round trip flight with historic Ju52 raffled

In parallel to evaluating the results of our survey, we have drawn the winner of the voucher for the 30-minutes Ju52 round trip flight out of all 177 survey participants. The voucher goes to the head of quality management of an engineering company from Stuttgart, Germany.

Best Practice in Process Management - Origin of Survey ParticipantsOn Friday, we closed our “Best Practice in Process Management” survey and the first evaluation of the¬†result indicates that we fulfilled our target to create an overview about the¬†interests in key aspects of process management and to assemble the contact persons of the particular topics.

177 process management experts from different organizations completed the survey and more than 75 percent are interested to discuss their experience within workshops for best practice identification.

During the next weeks, we will go into a more detailed analysis of the results to identify the most interesting topics for the workshops. We will provide you with an update about the selected topics and the further procedure on our blog.

In addition, we will raffle the voucher for the Ju52 flight and announce the winner within the next days. ūüôā

Process Management becomes more and more important!

By now, we received 154 feedbacks from participants with different backgrounds such as engineering, aviation and IT with positions as head of department or director. Most participants are from Germany, Austria and Switzerland, but also 19 international participants from other countries took part.

An interesting fact is that 40 % of the participants are involved in process management for more than 9 years.

They were able to gain a lot of experience they also like to share because more than 100 participants are interested in being part of a workshop.

The different aspects concerning process management were rated with an increasing importance, especially the ‚Äúacceptance of process management within the organization‚ÄĚ.

Review of BPMCon 2011

After participating in the first BPMCon in Berlin last Friday, I would like to share my impressions and summarize my key learning.

The conference was opened by a provoking key note speech by Gerhard Wohland about “Dynamic-robust process design”. He explained his theory of blue (dead) and red (alive) areas in processes and this learning accompanied us throughout the day. Blue activities are formal and can be described by processes, red activities need talents to be processed. At Lufthansa Technik, we call this “good workmanship”. ūüėČ For more information about this topic, please visit Gerhard Wohland’s website (only available in German).

My second key learning was the delimitation of the business-related areas of BPM (modeling of processes) and the technical part of BPM which can be supported by process engines or conventional IT systems. Up to now, we are focused on the business-oriented part at Lufthansa Technik, but I am really interested in learning more about how to support processes by process engines based on BPMN modeled processes. This definition of BPM is visualized in the camunda BPMN-Framework¬†(again, only available in German). By the way: Our survey is also focused on the business-related part of BPM. ūüôā

Finally, I can state that I am a big fan of Pecha Kucha, now! 20 slides in 6 minutes and 40 seconds, 20 seconds for every slide only. Information on the point. Entertaining for the audience and a real challenge for the presenter. But all of us presenters mastered this challenge and gave their presentations without time difficulties. Now, I am looking forward to the next chance for giving a Pecha Kucha presentation because I would like to improve my presentation with the lessons I learned on Friday. – I am thinking about integrating Pecha Kucha into our Best Practice in Process Management workshops. ūüėČ

BPMCon 2011: Process Management at Lufthansa Technik

On September 9, we will be present at BPMCon 2011 in Berlin. Beside presentations and workshops about BPMN 2.0, Agile BPM, Activity 5, and future of BPM¬†the agenda offers a number of Pecha Kucha presentations. – And one of these presentations will be about “Process Management at Lufthansa Technik”.

I just finalized the slides and I am very excited about presenting Lufthansa Technik‚Äôs process management approach on 20 slides within 6 minutes and 40 seconds. ‚Äď This is 20 seconds per slide.

Among other information, the presentation will cover details about IQ MOVE, our process-oriented management system, as well as JoinIN!, our methodology to develop and implement standardized processes which was developed in cooperation with University of Bamberg.

Bring process management experts together and share best practices!

We would like to invite you to take part in our survey ‚ÄěBest Practice in Process Management‚Äú which was generated in cooperation between Department of Information Systems at Otto-Friedrich University of Bamberg of Professor Dr. Tim Weitzel and the Process Management Team of Lufthansa Technik Group.
By performing this survey, we would like to create an overview about the interests in key aspects of process management and to assemble the contact persons of the particular topics to organize workshops for best practice identification and to facilitate exchange of experiences of process management experts. 
Since summer 2010, University of Bamberg and Lufthansa Technik AG are collaborating in a business process standardization project and together, we developed a methodology for the development, implementation, and operations of Lufthansa Technik Group-wide standardized processes.
With this initiative we would like to start a discussion about process management and we would like to exchange our experience with other experts, to develop best practices for all of us.
